The benefits of working

Let's be fair and admit that there can be positive things to be reaped from working life too, and not just risks. Do note that these benefits do not come free, but require the sacrifice of working and sometimes even going the extra mile.

One. Monetary payout. This is the most obvious one. Since most of the countries on the planet offer little to no social security for those unemployed, working to earn your living is the go-to choice for the most. Even in a leftist country, those working can expect to net much more freedom in the way of money than those unemployed.

Two. Social payout. Even if this can be highly dependent on the individual in question, this does not mean just getting to socialize in the middle of a workday. The best rewards come from creating valuable connections and gaining new friends. These connections can then help you to advance in life in general, and even in some cases help you get through some tough times.

Three. This one is controversial. As humans, it is vital for us to find purpose for ourselves. By this I do not mean just a purpose in life, but a purpose as a part of some community. Working is for many the easiest way to achieve this purpose. Anyone within the spectrum ranging from the simplest of jobs all the way to the toughest C-suite positions can find this purpose for themselves at work. The reason this is controversial is because there are plenty of people who also do these same jobs without thinking about a purpose in it for them, but just work for a paycheck.

Four. Finally, as humans we are designed to work. Without a single task to do, a single thought to ponder, or a project to complete, we tend to get depressed. Sadly, when working, many also lose the willingness to work like this when not at their paid work. You could call it a lack of imagination or losing focus. After decades of doing paid work, many forget how to do stuff at their free time. The problem is, even in our retirement, we do need something to work on and something or someone to work with. So, as long as you do not succumb to this, working even for a salary can be a greatly beneficial factor for your health and overall wellbeing.
